Round 2 Irish National Series Ratoath BMX
May 16, 2015Round 2 of the National Series took place at the home of BMX and it promised to be a great event, the weather was to turn bad on Sunday afternoon so everything had to run like clock work, with Shay McNally and John Fynes on the laptop is was sure to run smooth. Gate practice kicked off and it was clear the wind was going to play its part our commissaire for the day spoke from experience and ask everybody to ride to the conditions.
The racing started just after 1 pm with the Boys and Girls under 6 taking their place on the gate, the starter was ready the green flags waving in the wind. There was some super racing in this group Callum Dunleavy took max point on the day with Carley Hayes snapping at his heals all day, Josh Hamilton was on the third step of the podium, well done to all 10 riders you are the stars of the future.
The next group up was 7-8, the unstoppable James Wood took the win closely followed by Tommy Campbell then Scott Ryle in third place all the other riders were in for a shout all day with some close racing.
Up next 9-10 Boys and Girls it was close competition between all riders Jade Gaffney was mixing it up with the boys in this one Callun took the win followed by Reuben, Jade Gaffney and Charlie Jackson with 11 riders in this group they will grow strong together. Special mention to Jake Nally who had a bad spill on the first jump heal fast hope the foot is not too bad.
11-12 Boys and Girls Mr Ryan Quinn what can I say he rode great all day all the USA training paying off, second place went to Mr smiler Niall Davis then Corey Waller in third Abby Steacy was forth.
Boys 13-14 the skill level gets better and better every time we see these guys, 1st place went to Morgan Kearney 2nd Jack Larkin and 3rd went to Ronan (I cant keep my wheels on the ground) Phibbs.
15+ Boys and Girls I have to say the rider of the day in my opinion went to Matthew Campbell I have watched him training and all his hard work is paying off, after all his Dad is the number one coach in Ratoath, Aaron Steacy back from retirement took 2nd place Daniel Hayes took 3rd all the lads are growing up so fast it only seams like 3 years ago they were 12.
We moved on to the Girl 8-10 we had four riders in this on Aoife Murtagh took top spot Alannah Carolan was second Skyla Nally 3rd followed by Katie Lemon.
Girls 11-14 Abby Steacy and Jade Gaffney !! wait a minute did they not already race ? were do they get their energy from, well done Abby on 1st place and Jade 2nd followed by sister Caitlin then Ella, Kirsty and Ciara O Gorman.
Now lets look at the Masters 30+ Mr Lar Massey stole the show today, this class is becoming one of the biggest groups with 18 riders trying to hold on to their youth. Lar took 1st, Ilmars took 2nd and number 46 Rossi Jackson had a great battle with Ian Hamilton to take 3rd place.
We always keep the best to last now roll the drums for the Superclass riders, with Geronimo away winning in Spain the lads had a chance of getting ahead of him today. Eoin Corrigan took the 100 points 2nd went to Jake Campbell (yep that family again) Sam Murphy was third. We had a big crash in the final with the guys mixing it up with our veteran Eamonn (elbows) Wyre, a special mention to David Dorney who had a bad face plant on the third straight ” please girls stop Emailing Ratoath BMX as Davids good looks have not been altered in any way”
So that’s the Racing sorted now, there was so much fun had on the day at the break we had our strider event, then for the first time ever we had our Rocker event with all the Boys and Girls of all ages getting involved, I think this was a great hit and we should see it again maybe in Cork.
So thanks to everybody and out main sponsor CCM Racing for taking part in round 2 we will see you all at round 3 in Cork 14/06/2015 bring your rockers you never know, oh ye our dancing shoes also.
